The Philadelphia 76ers officially announced on Thursday that 43-year-old Mike Gansey has been appointed as president of basketball operations. The position had been vacant since Darrell Morey left the post on May 12.

As for Gan west's specific term of office, the 76ers have not yet disclosed it.

Gansey has worked for the Cleveland Cavaliers since 2012 and was promoted from assistant general manager to general manager in 2022. Under his leadership, the Cavaliers have accumulated a regular season record of 259 wins and 151 losses over the past five years and have made the playoffs for four consecutive years.

Regarding the appointment, Josh Harris, owner of the Philadelphia 76ers, explained in a statement: "Announcing the hiring of Mike Gansey today is an important step in taking the Philadelphia 76ers to the next level. Mike is known for his exceptional leadership and relentless work ethic, as well as his keen eye for basketball talent. We are thrilled to welcome him and his family to Philadelphia. I look forward to him working alongside Bob Myers and Nick Nurse to build a championship contender for this city and our fans."

Bob Myers, who currently serves as president of sports at the 76ers' parent company and helped the Golden State Warriors win four championships, added: "Mike stood out in the coaching selection process. He has all the qualities required of a president of basketball operations. He is awe-inspiring, possesses excellent basketball IQ, and is highly respected by players, coaches, and fellow executives. He has all the necessary qualifications to be in this position."

Gansey himself said, "I am sincerely grateful to Josh Harris, David Blitzer and Bob Myers for their trust in me and for giving me the opportunity to lead a historic and traditionally strong team. This team, like Philadelphia, is deeply rooted in history and passion, and I can't wait to start a new journey."

"Fans, I will never take this responsibility lightly. Your passion and dedication to the 76ers will inspire us to keep moving forward, and our work starts now. We will prepare for the draft, free agency, next season, and the future. I also want to thank Dan Gilbert and his family, Kobe Altman and the Cavaliers for giving me the opportunity to serve the team and the city of Cleveland for nearly 15 years."
