Real Madrid president Perez has pledged to bring back Mourinho if he is re-elected.

Real Madrid will hold its first presidential election with a competitor in 20 years this Sunday. Incumbent president Florentino Pérez dropped a bombshell on Wednesday: if he is re-elected, José Mourinho will return to manage the club.

Perez posted a short campaign video on social media, in which Mourinho personally responded with "Yes!" and accompanied by a tribute slogan, officially endorsing Perez.

Perez's decision to call an early election and his desire to bring back Mourinho stemmed from Real Madrid's recent slump. Not only did they watch helplessly as their arch-rivals Barcelona secured two consecutive La Liga titles domestically, but they also failed to reach the Champions League quarterfinals for two consecutive seasons.

The disappointing end of the season has put Perez under immense pressure. Although some commentators have questioned whether Mourinho's pragmatic approach is outdated in modern football, Perez firmly believes that the coach who led Real Madrid to a record-breaking 100-point La Liga title win can reinvigorate discipline and a tenacious, hard-hitting style of play into the current star-studded squad featuring Mbappe, Vinicius, and Bellingham.

Meanwhile, Perez's rival, renewable energy entrepreneur Riquelme, was not to be outdone. While Perez was speaking, Riquelme was campaigning on television. He promised that if elected, his first signing would be Manchester City's star player and Spanish captain, Rodri, and he would also target striker Haaland, and invite Real Madrid legend Raul to become his sporting director.

Mourinho previously managed Benfica, with his contract expiring in 2027. As the Real Madrid elections heat up, the ambitious plans of the two candidates have transformed this power struggle into a battle between a top star and a renowned manager.
