According to Yahoo Sports reporter Kevin O'Connor on Thursday, the Boston Celtics have shown strong interest in Giannis Antetokounmpo. They are even willing to trade all their players except Jayson Tatum to acquire Antetokounmpo from the Milwaukee Bucks.
“I’ve heard the Boston Celtics are currently shopping players around,” O’Connor said on his podcast. “The Celtics are contacting teams and they’re willing to trade for any player except Jayson Tatum. This doesn’t necessarily mean they’ll end up with Giannis, but based on what I’ve heard from various sources, the Celtics are indeed interested in Giannis.”
O'Connor concluded, "The competition to acquire Giannis Antetokounmpo now seems to have evolved into a showdown between the two teams and the Milwaukee Bucks."
As for the Celtics' rivals, several NBA reporters, including Jack Fisher, have pointed to the Miami Heat. It is understood that the Heat have prepared a trade proposal for Giannis Antetokounmpo, including Tyler Herro, Kyle Ward, Jaime Hextech Jr., and draft picks.
O'Connor added that the Celtics are not ruling out listing Jaylen Brown as a core asset in this potential trade. This move is both to match the Bucks' asking price for Giannis Antetokounmpo and to ensure Jayson Tatum's untouchable status.
As the Celtics' second option, 29-year-old Brown has just finished an impressive season: he delivered an outstanding performance during the regular season, averaging 28.7 points, 6.9 rebounds, 5.1 assists, and 1.0 steals per game, successfully helping the Celtics enter the playoffs with the second-best record in the Eastern Conference.
However, the Celtics were eliminated in the first round of the playoffs by the Philadelphia 76ers, losing 4-3. During this period, Brown played a total of 7 games, averaging 35.6 minutes, contributing 25.7 points, 5.7 rebounds, 3.3 assists, and 1.1 blocks, with a field goal percentage of 45.5% and a three-point percentage of 40.5%.
