Augsburg have officially signed striker Michael Gregoritsch. The player joined the team on loan from Brøndby in the winter transfer window of 2026. After playing for half a season, the club decided to activate the buy-out clause and sign him until the summer of 2027, with a one-year extension option included in the contract.
Michael Gregoritsch is no new face for Augsburg. The striker played for the team from 2017 to 2022 and quickly integrated into the squad after returning to the club in the second half of last season. He proved his worth once again with 6 goals and 3 assists in 17 appearances.
Michael Gregoritsch has now scored 35 goals for Augsburg in the Bundesliga, just two shy of Alfred Finnbogason's all-time Bundesliga top scorer title. Meanwhile, the Austrian striker is with his national team at the World Cup in Canada, Mexico, and the United States.
Augsburg's sporting director, Benny Weber, said: "In the second half of last season, Michael Gregoritsch proved his importance to the team with key goals and consistent performances. He is a responsible player, a true team player, and an influential leader both on and off the field."
"His rich experience and positive attitude in helping his teammates have made him an important role model and pillar for the team's young players and new signings. Therefore, we are very happy that he will continue to stay with the team and sincerely wish him all the best during his time with the Austrian national team at the World Cup."
Speaking about completing the official transfer, Michael Gregoritsch said, "I have never hidden my sense of belonging to Augsburg. Here, I can truly feel the club's trust in me, and I am also very familiar with everything about the club."
“I’m very happy to continue playing for Augsburg in the future. It feels good to have my destination decided before the World Cup started. I will focus on the national team matches in the next few weeks, and then return to Augsburg. The team as a whole is very much looking forward to the new season and hopes to continue the excellent performance in the second half of last season and strive for even better results.”
