According to a report by TA reporter Hunter Patterson on Tuesday, the league widely believes that the Detroit Pistons will reach a five-year contract with Jalen Duren worth between $200 million and $220 million. If the report is true, Duren's annual salary after the extension is expected to be between $40 million and $44 million.

Duren, 22, is a 2.08-meter tall, 113-kilogram center who entered the NBA in June 2022 as the 13th overall pick in the first round. As a key contributor to the Pistons' rise to the top of the Eastern Conference this season, he played 70 games in 82 regular season games, averaging 19.5 points, 10.5 rebounds, and 2.0 assists in 28.2 minutes per game, with a field goal percentage of 65.0%.

Thanks to his outstanding regular season performance, Durant was selected to the 2025/26 NBA All-NBA Third Team in May. According to a previous report by ESPN salary expert Bobby Marks, he is currently eligible for a five-year supermax contract, representing 30% of the team's salary cap and increasing by 8% annually.

If the Pistons decide to offer Durant a full max contract, his salary over the next five years will be $49.5 million, $53.5 million, $57.4 million, $61.4 million, and $65.3 million respectively. However, his poor performance during the playoffs has greatly shaken the management's confidence in this offer.

According to ESPN statistics, Durant played 14 playoff games for the Pistons, averaging only 10.2 points, 8.5 rebounds, 2.1 assists, and 1.2 blocks per game. The Pistons were ultimately eliminated by the Cleveland Cavaliers 4-3, ending their run in the Eastern Conference semifinals.

Durant's playoff performance fell far short of expectations, but his All-Star selection and All-NBA Third Team ranking cannot be ignored. Patterson commented, "I don't think the Pistons will offer Durant a max contract, nor do I think management will force Durant's team to seek a contract with other teams."

Patterson later added that the Pistons will do everything in their power to ensure Duren stays with the team long-term. They remain confident in Duren and see him as a key part of the team's future plans: "I don't think the team will give up on Duren—he's in his prime, has huge potential, and has made great progress since his rookie season."
